hi! I'm erin .⎇❀№

[first†of†its†kind] every city a flesh-machine, our very own god's will packed into a retroviral casing

I have been called a "computer architect," a "ML devops engineer," a "firmware engineer," a "ML researcher," a "security unprofessional," and a "computer toucher."

I am interested in distributed/concurrent systems, embedded engineering, compilers, programming language theory, digital signal processing, and computer graphics.

outside of computers, I love doing stupid things with shop tools and lab equipment, riding bikes, looking at cool buildings and infrastructure, making music, and occasionally DJing. I spend quite a bit of time at NYC Resistor, the coolest hackerspace in the US.

work history

in 2023, I became a member of technical staff at D. E. Shaw Research, variously working on computer architecture, firmware engineering, and gpu gardening ML devops. i'd interned previously in 2021 and 2022, working on firmware engineering and molecular dynamics methods development.

in 2022, I spent ~6 months at Starry Internet, working on firmware for their microwave point-to-point radio hardware.

between 2015 and 2020, I was employed as a research assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, working on computer vision, active learning, natural language processing, and briefly quantum computing. I was most involved with Robert Nowak, Rebecca Willett, and Jerry (Xiaojin) Zhu's labs.

fun history

I did Hack-a-Sat 2020 with the BLÅHAJ CTF team, placing 10th in the qualifiers and receiving a DEFCON invite; I wrote extensively about this.

I used to work with the Zelda RE Team on the LoZ: Twilight Princess decompilation. If I wanted to pad my résumé, this is a "manual oracle attack against a monolithic compiler". As part of this work, we reverse engineered the debug tools for Twilight Princess, which let us play with the debug UI used while developing the game.

in the past, I contributed to the glitch-soc fork of Mastodon, as well as the upstream.

while in uni, I was involved in student governance and funds allocation, and cofounded Queer and Trans Engineers, a student organization fostering community in the engineering college.
